About Kurwongbah

Kurwongbah is an electorate in two parts divided by Lake Kurwongbah in the centre. North of the lake the electorate includes Narangba and most of Burpengary. To the south it includes Petrie, Joyner, Lawnton and parts of Bray Park.

Kurwongbah covers 125 square kilometres. 

Lake Kurwongbah

The namesake of the electorate, Lake Kurwongbah is a popular location for picnics, swimming and water sports.  Shane has worked to ensure locals continue to have safe access to this wonderful recreational resource.

Lakeside Park

Since it’s opening in 1961, Lakeside International Raceway (now called Lakeside Park) has hosted the Formula One Tasman series, the Australian Touring Car Championships, the Australian Superbike Championships and even the Australian Grand Prix.  Racing greats including Jack Brabham, Dick Johnson, Peter Brock and Mick Doohan have all graced the tracks at Lakeside.  In 2001, Council bought the land and closed the racing down.  Thanks to a sustained Save Lakeside community campaign and significant investment by Queensland Raceways, Lakeside now hosts various Queensland racing events (including the famous Lakeside Classic) as well as driver training, testing and manufacturing days.  Shane is proud to be a strong supporter of Lakeside and a regular on and around the track.

Old Petrie Town

A popular wedding venue set amongst our famous Moreton Bay fig trees and beautiful heritage buildings, Old Petrie Town hosts weekly Sunday markets from 7am – 1pm.  Old Petrie Town is also home to the Pine Rivers Heritage Museum (entry is free), Indigenous art workshops and on weekends offers a range of unique dining experiences.
